Women's Retreats: Imagine the joy and chatter as midlifing women come together to share their stories and discover how God has been at work throughout their lives, preparing them for their "Second Adulthood". (Gail Sheehy, in New Passages, uses this term to define our lives, 50 and beyond.) Whether you fear the changes that midlife brings, or look forward to the increased opportunities that midlife can afford, you will be able to share your experience with a community of sisters.
As God's spirit works through our stories, dreams and goals we will:
- move from fear to courage.
- shift our focus from losses to gains.
- acknowledge pain, but recognize pleasures.
- reject becoming less, and choose to become more.
- wrestle with our doubts and grow in faith.
Retreats for men and women: This Midlife Momentum process would be designed for both men and women. The retreat would not be geared specifically for couples.
Couple's Retreats: Whether you are approaching the empty-nest years, contemplating retirement, feel trapped in a career or lifestyle that no longer fits, or simply know your marriage needs a fresh wind, you will have the opportunity as a couple to seek God's will and direction for the next season of your lives.
Midlife can be a scary time for marriages as we recognize needs for change within ourselves and wonder how that will effect our relationships, especially within the family. We need to celebrate that we are continually becoming new creations, but we need to find ways to journey together through this time of transitions. Your marriage can be richer, fuller, deeper in meaning and purpose.
Below are several format options:
1. A one-two hour introduction to the theme of living our "second adulthood" (50 and beyond) with meaning and purpose.
2. Retreat options
- A 24 hour retreat with 4-5 follow-up sessions to complete the initial process (If distance is prohibitive local facilitators can be trained to lead some of these sessions.)
- A Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon retreat which provides time to complete the inital process
- Two 24 hour retreats, for example one held in the spring and another in the fall
- A Saturday retreat allows time to explore the questions midlife raises and begin the process of seeking God's purpose.
- A Saturday retreat for developing a mission statement, but it would lack the depth of doing the life reflection activities.
3. A week long intensive class
4. A 6-8 session class meeting weekly/monthly, each session 2-3 hours long
5. A 6-8 session spiritual formation small group
These options can be modified to meet your needs, schedules and expectations.
Obviously the effectiveness and impact of the Midlife Momentum process will be determined in part by the time committed to the experience.
Cost: one-two hour speaking engagement--Mileage plus $150.00
Retreats and classes are negotiated dependant on time, distance and number of participants.
